Medicare Coverage of Acupuncture
Acupuncture may be covered if you do.
Medicare requires treatment or oversight by an MD
- We offer a seniors with Medicare Self-pay rate. Call to learn more.
- Only one carrier American Specialty Health provides a Medicare plan that covers a licensed Acupuncturist.
- In Texas All other policies only cover treatment provided by MD or supervised by a licensed MD. Medicare canot pay a Licensed Acupuncturist directly which is why we can accept most plans. THere is legislation in Austin to change this.
What Medicare Part B Covers for Acupuncture: Chronic Low Back Pain ONLY
Chronic low back pain is defined as:
- Lasts 12 weeks or longer
- Has no known cause (for example, it's not related to cancer that has spread, or an infectious or inflammatory disease)
- Isn't associated with surgery or pregnancy
Coverage: 12 treatments in 90 days, affter 90 days a Medical Review report is submitted for up to 20 visits and must be approved showing significant improvement.
